Region of Kočevsko boasts a rich history, including significant peasant uprisings. Serfs of Kočevje sparked the largest rebellion, shaping the area’s resistance legacy.
During this experience, participants visit an old Gottscheer village to explore the lives of local farmers from 1330, when German settlers arrived, to 1515, when the uprising began. The journey delves into the roles of nobility, serf rights, and challenges faced in Kočevsko, culminating in the revolt that led to the deaths of nobleman Jurij Thurn and Gregor Stržen, steward of the Fridrihštajn Castle.
Then, the main part of the program begins, where participants transform historical theory into practice by reenacting a battle using foam weapons: swords, shields, spears, bows, and arrows. The foam weapons are specially designed for safe yet realistic dueling.
The group is divided into two teams—nobles and serfs—and they stage a battle. Basic archery and spear-throwing skills are also introduced. The battle repeats multiple times, with the serfs aiming to kill Jurij Thurn while the nobles protect him. Winners are rewarded with juice or schnapps (adults).
The experience can also take place at Fridrihštajn Castle.
